My Controversial Raiders Training Camp Look: The Mustache Heard 'Round the Locker Room 🏈👨🏻

Let’s rewind to 2015 — my third year with the Oakland Raiders. I was grinding through another tough training camp when I decided to make a bold (and arguably questionable) move: grow a mustache.

Yes. A real, unapologetic, old-school, upper-lip mustache.

And let me tell you — it caused a stir.

Why the Mustache?

I wish I could say there was a deep, symbolic reason. But honestly? I just thought it’d be funny. Training camp is long. It’s hot. It’s brutal. I figured, why not add a little levity — even if it was growing on my face?

As soon as I walked in, I knew I had made a statement — just not sure what kind.

Some guys couldn’t stop laughing. Others thought I lost a bet. A few genuinely wondered if I was trying to start a trend (spoiler: I wasn’t, and it didn’t). One coach raised an eyebrow so high I’m pretty sure it left the building.

Let’s just say… it didn’t exactly earn me a GQ spread.

But hey, in a high-pressure environment like the NFL, having a sense of humor (and thick skin) goes a long way. I’ll always remember that mustache as my little rebellion against the monotony of camp — and a good reminder not to take yourself too seriously.

Would I Grow It Again?

Let’s just say… probably not. But I will never regret the laughs it brought. Sometimes the best moments come from not caring what anyone else thinks and just leaning into who you are — mustache and all.
